Sonya Worth, PT, MHSc, OCS, CIDN, FAAOMPT is Board Certified as an Orthopedic Clinical Specialist and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Therapists. She specializes in orthopedic physical therapy, sports rehabilitation, orthopedic manual therapy, aquatic therapy and, dry needling. Sonya listens carefully to her patient’s stories; to be sure she develops a personalized plan of care for every patient. She takes pride in the collaboration she has with her patients, and their health care team, to help her patients achieve their functional, movement, and activity goals.

As a native New Zealander, Sonya received her Physiotherapy undergraduate training at Otago University, Dunedin, New Zealand, and her advanced training in Manual and Manipulative Physiotherapy from Auckland University of Technology, New Zealand. Sonya also qualified as a Physiotherapy Acupuncturist with the Physiotherapy Acupuncture Association of New Zealand in 1998. She practiced manipulative physiotherapy and physiotherapy acupuncture in a New Zealand musculoskeletal outpatient clinic until relocating to Vermont in 2000. In January of 2014, Sonya studied Integrative Dry Needling with Dr Frank Gargano of Dr Ma’s Dry Needling Institute which allowed her to re-introduce dry needling into her clinical practice skill set. Fun Fact:  She has instructed SBPT’s Casey Baczewski in two dry needling courses. She treats patients with a variety of neuromusculoskeletal injuries with a focus on treatment for patients with spinal, shoulder and hip pain.

Another interesting fact:  Sonya was a professor to Emily and Casey during their own physical therapy education at UVM. They travelled together to New Zealand during a PT Faculty Lead Program Abroad focusing on further development of manual and manipulative skills and clinical reasoning.
